Birthday Card for a Scrappin' Sistah

I am part of a group of great women that meet every Tuesday for scrappin', and talkin' (mostly talkin' I think) and on Tuesday June1 our friend Dana is celebrating a birthday so I made this card for her. She has a great sense of humour and will know that it is all in good fun, after all for my birthday she gave me a magnifying mirror and tweezers so I could remove my chin hairs!!! Revenge is sweet. The outside sentiment reads "Sag you're it" and the inside sentiment is "Heard you used to be a 36C but now you are a 36 long." The stamp is from Art Impressions which has a whole line of humour stamps that I love. OK a confession while I went to the site to copy the URL to link it in my blog , I stopped and did some shopping. It is a sickness, truly a sickness!!! I also stamped the image on my pattern paper and cut out the skirt so I could add it to my coloured image. I love that effect. I flocked the pom poms on her slippers and gave her a little flocking on her blue hair to tone it down a bit. Small copper brads for earrings and she is complete. The flower embellishment is made with a scallop punch from Stampin Up and again thanks to a friend in our Tuesday group for showing me how to make it. I think for me the best part of discovering this hobby is all the wonderful people I have met through teaching classes, attending classes and crops and of course my blog buddies.

Today is simply a glorious hot day so my grandson and some friends are coming to swim. The good news I love to spend time with them, the bad news I have to put on a bathing suit!

AHH The Sweet Smell of Lacrosse Season

I have not posted for a few days but thought I would show you two cards I did from Penny Black. They have a vintage feel and I really love the papers. I finally bought a large Martha Stewart border punch and I am finding it very versatile. I can see I may have to add to my stash and pick up a couple more, using a coupon of course! I used copics to colour them. Even though I have been having fun playing with the distress inks nothing can beat my copics.

I will be busy over the next two months because Lacrosse Season has started. Nothing says summer like the "sweet" smell of a stinking hot arena filled with sweaty boys bodies. We got to the game late tonight and the place was packed so the only seats left were right behind the bench. WOW it never ceases to amaze me how bad it can be, but it is a memory that will never fade from me no matter how much Frebreeze I use. That smell will always remind me of great summers spent with other families cheering on their children in a sport that for so long appealed to only a few.

I'm excited because I am going stamp shopping tomorrow and I really am going to try to keep it within reason. My friend DEB and I are heading state side to Buffalo Stamp and AC Moore's. I'll let you know what stamps will be finding a loving home here with me in Burlington. Really stamps should not have to spend lonely days on the shelves of stores when I still have room in my craft room to make their warm and cozy.

Anniversary Card

The weather here for the last three days has been glorious so I wanted to be out and enjoying it but that meant not as much time to play. I'm posting a stampavie image of Jack and Ginger which I am using for my husband's anniversary card at the end of the month. I loved the image and I have added the sentiment inside "I'm so glad we are growing old together". I refuse to believe that even after thirty nine years of marriage I am old!!!

I stamped the image and coloured it with my copic markers. I truly believe there are no mistakes just opportunities for embellishment. The reason I say this is that I coloured Ginger's skirt last and I just didn't like the colour and so not to waste the image I re stamped it, coloured it again, cut it out and superimposed it on the first image giving it almost a paper toll look which added dimension to it. Because it was for my DH I wanted to keep it simple.

It looks like maybe some rain for the weekend so there is no reason to clean the house because it will only get muddy so I will have time to play. Really I can always justify playing with my stamps, ink and paper. Hope everyone has a great weekend no matter what you are choosing to do!

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

This final attempt with the distress inks is getting a little lighter on the colour but I still want to get more of a washed out look so I will continue to practice. I'll keep you updated on my progress and of course any feedback you can give me is greatly appreciated. I am loving doing all the flowers and "girly" stuff since I am usually scrap booking for boys!! What a treat to work with all the bling.

SECOND ATTEMP WITH DISTRESS INKS

Here is the second card I did with the distress inks and I still think I have put too much colour on the image. I love the way the flowers turned out and my distress paper.

DISTRESS INK AND MY MAGNOLIAS

Well I finally got around to experimenting with some distress inks and oh my a whole new world just opened up! I had some plain white prima flowers so I played around with using the inks to colour these to match my papers. I added some Maya Mist in gold metallic to give them some shimmer. I used the distress inks and some sponge pads to colour the nestabilities to also tone in with the colour scheme and then....I started colouring my Tilda. I have used stronger colours than the style used by the Swedish designers but I think the brighter colours of my paper work better that the very pale colouring style. I am going to continue to experiment with a softer pallet once I get some pale coloured papers. I am a colour girl- love my cheerful bright colours. I rally must get out in the garden and start working but I am hoping for maybe one day of rain this week so I have an excuse to stay in and play!!

Card Classes

I am planning on teaching a card class on Thursday May 27 at my home in Burlington. I am going to use watercolour crayons and some distress inks to colour some Magnolia images and of course I will also design a card or two using other techniques. There will be four cards with envelopes and the cost is $15.00. Times are still flexible but I think it will be from 11:00 to 2:00. I will post some samples early next week so let me know if you are interested. You can email me at dawn.hedley@sympatico.ca.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CRAIG

Tonight we celebrated my oldest son's 31st birthday and of course I had to make him a card. I used a stamped image from Crafter's Companion's Popcorn Bear collection which I got from my local scrapbook store the Memory Keeper. I used copic markers to colour it and some Fancy pants pattern paper from their Rusted Sun collection. If you have not seen the Popcorn Bears they are so cute and have a good variety of images. This one would also make a great Father's Day card and I have used it before for a retirement card.

Dinner was great and Keegan and his Dad seemed to enjoy the cake. They are just so darn cute together.

INVITATIONS DONE!!!!

I have finished the twelve invitations to Keegan's Pirate Party and they were fun to do. I personalized them with each child's name. I couldn't decide if I should colour each individual image with all the colours or do all the grey, blue etc on each image. I decided to do all one colour at a time and it did take about 25 minutes for each complete image. I used copics and a gel pen. I always choose my pattern paper before I choose the colours for the image. This way I do not colour an image and then can't find pattern paper that compliments it. The image is from Magnolias and I would like to thank Dana, one of my stamping buddies for lending me her new stamp. I feel very lucky because I have a group of friends that love to stamp and are so generous with all their new stamps. We share with each other and then we don't purchase as many....or at least we try to convince ourselves of that "lie". It's hard not to purchase all the ones you want but it is wonderful to share.Next on my agenda will be the treasure maps and treasure boxes. I'll let you know how these are going soon.

It's raining here today so I have had a great excuse for playing this afternoon and finishing my invites and playing with some new Penny Black stamps. I'll try to post some pictures of these on the weekend.

May I wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother's Day. Remember.....being a mom is not for sissies!!!

Yipee High Hopes!!!
Yes I have High Hopes and I love these whimsical stamps. I have coloured them with copics and I must admit I never stopped smiling the whole time. I used some glossy accents on the fish bowl which is difficult to see in the photograph but it does add some pizazz to the card. The dragon image is just so darn adorable and the sentiment inside reads "It seemed like a good idea at the time" Check out the website for High Hopes I am sure you will love them.

It's hard to believe that my adorable grandson is going to be three next month and I am busy designing and making invitations for his party. I am using a Magnolia stamp and going with the pirate theme. I am hoping to post the example tomorrow. I am very excited about the design and I am personalizing each invitation. Treasure boxes and buried treasure maps are next on the agenda. I love making all these things and I am sure he will have a great party. I am looking forward to my daughter in law sharing pictures with me.

Monday, May 3, 2010

Well I am making my first post and I thought I would share with you some information for some classes I am doing at the Memory Keeper in Hamilton. I am sharing my love of copic markers, and I must admit I may have to start a support group to help me control my urge to buy all the colours. I am using stamps from different companies such as Magnolia, Penny Black, Stampavie, and the The Greeting Farm. The images are whimsical and lend themselves to many different occasions. These photos are the examples and I would love to see some of you come out and give copics a try but I am giving you fair warning.....they are addictive.
